What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are a type of long-term replacement for a missing or loose tooth. This treatment is available in different formats depending on the treatment required. We offer dental implants for single missing teeth, multiple missing teeth, and even full arch implants

Dental implants work by first placing a titanium screw into the jawbone where the missing tooth used to be, using a small surgical procedure. The titanium material bonds to the bone, forming a metal root that a crown can be attached to and acts just like a root on a real tooth. Once integrated, this will provide a solid foundation for the new prosthetic tooth to fit on top.

Dental Implant Treatment Process

The surgery involved with dental implant treatment relies on a strong and stable foundation within the jawbone, so we will always assess your jawbone structure with a CBCT scan. This allows us to see a 3D image and give an expert judgement on whether your bone appears stable enough as it is to receive the treatment. If the results from the CBCT scan reveal that your bone structure is not stable enough, we can discuss treatment options to increase the density and suitability such as a synthetic bone graft.

Using the results from your CBCT scan, we will create a surgical plan. The procedure is then performed using Guided Implant Surgery, installing the titanium implant into your jawbone. We always use this process for dental implant treatments and it is the best way to ensure the highest accuracy and stability. Aviva Cosmetic Dentistry is one of the few surgeries in the UK to provide this surgery.

Once the implant is in place, a custom crown will be created to be installed on the top when the site is fully healed. This is created to match the colour and shape of your natural teeth, blending seamlessly and replacing your missing tooth.

The Benefits of Dental Implants

So what makes dental implants so important as a solution to missing teeth? Here are some benefits that make them so essential within treatment plans.

They look and function like your natural teeth

Dental implants are the treatment option that provides the closest result to your natural teeth possible. Especially colour matched and stain-resistant, your implant is sure to look great for many years to come. They also function much like your natural teeth because they are directly installed into your jawbone. This provides more stability and gives you the freedom to eat your favourite foods and smile with confidence.

Help protect against bone loss

When you have lost a tooth, there is a risk of also losing bone. In our mouths, there is a bone called the alveolar bone that surrounds our teeth and provides them with support and structure. However, this bone only keeps its function and density with stimulation from the teeth.

Once the teeth are lost, the bone can begin to lose its density, resulting in your face changing shape and the increased risk of your jawbone losing strength and function. Replacing your tooth with an implant stimulates this bone and helps prevent the loss of density.

I went in to have my veneers replaced- after 12 years they weren’t looking so great.

From the online consultation, to the same-day procedure (totally painless and stress-free), Aviva were fantastic.

I had 100% confidence in Dr Caplan at all times, and my teeth have never looked better or more natural- there’s no way you could tell they’re veneers at this point which is exactly what I wanted. I’m a very happy customer indeed.

Dr Caplan put me at complete ease, and discussed my options without being pushy.

I am over the moon with the results! Would highly recommend.

I would recommend this practice as it’s welcoming, it’s modern and the technology Julian uses is the best in the country!

The digital scanner that was used in my mouth to take the impressions of my teeth was painless and quick. It also meant that the imagery went straight to Invisalign and the whole experience was seamless and very fast.

Everything was done in one day which I think is just amazing! Dr Caplan uses this latest technology, which I think is probably what enables it to be done in one day, painlessly and without discomfort at all.

I came along at about 8 / 8.30 one morning and the whole job was finished by about 4.30/5 o’clock.

I would certainly recommend this practice and I have recommended it to many friends and family because I believe it’s probably the best place to come if you want to improve everything about your teeth from a smile perspective and probably from a medical perspective.

“I found it uncomfortable to eat because of two fractured teeth, so I had implants to replace them.

After having the implants I was able to eat again and had no discomfort!

Since then everything has been well, and I have the knowledge that they’ll last for many years.”

Brilliant! My disgusting white and metal crown has been removed with no pain, no hassle and replaced with a beautiful looking Cerec crown.

Nervous patient, no reason to be. Proactively going to crown another tooth as the experience was so good.
