What is CEREC?
CEREC (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramic) is a method of creating dental inlays and onlays, used to repair and strengthen back teeth that are damaged, decayed, or worn. Inlays are used to repair the surfaces used to chew on the back teeth, and onlays are a larger dental piece used on a bigger area on the tooth cusps (the raised points of the back teeth).

CEREC is created using a Cerec 3D machine, meaning that a photographic image of your tooth is used to shape an inlay or onlay on-site, this allows the treatment to be completed within one appointment.
The process of CEREC will typically include the following steps:
- Numbing and preparation of the tooth that needs treatment.
- A scan is made of your mouth to ensure customised shape to your treatment.
- Computer software is used by your dentist to design a model for your inlay/onlay.
- The model is related to equipment that creates the restoration with high precision.
- The inlay/onlay is placed onto your tooth, adjusted where appropriate, and bonded securely to the required tooth.
