Using Dental Crowns to Perfect Your Smile

What Are Dental Crowns?

Within dentistry, the crown refers to the top anatomical part of your tooth that is visible above the gumline. When this part of the tooth gets damaged, a dental professional can provide you with an artificial crown to take its place.

Once the damaged area has been removed, the remaining tooth will be used as a post to hold the new crown in place. Crowns are sometimes known as ‘caps’ because they sit on top of the natural tooth.

When Are Dental Crowns Needed?

Dental Crowns are typically used when there is a damaged or broken tooth that needs a higher level of protection to preserve the function and appearance of the tooth. They can also be used to hold a dental bridge in place, to cover a tooth that is miscoloured, or simply for cosmetic reasons if a patient is not happy with the appearance of their teeth.

Dental Crown Treatment Process

At your first appointment, your dental professional will take X-Rays of your teeth to establish the existing teeth and their quality. This is performed because it helps to identify any problems with the root of the affected tooth and the surrounding bone. If there is a risk of injury or infection, a root canal treatment may be required before your dental crown can be installed.

The tooth will then be reshaped to provide the most appropriate surface for the artificial crown to sit upon. Dental crowns at Aviva Dentistry are beautifully handcrafted onsite by Dr. Julian Caplan and fitted in a single 90-minute appointment. We will take a scan that Julian will use to design your bespoke crown. This is then milled onsite and is ready to fit in less than an hour.

Benefits of Dental Crowns

Dental crowns are a great long-term solution lasting 5-15 years, promoting durability and eliminating the need for multiple shorter-term solutions like fillings over this period of time.

This treatment provides both functional and cosmetic benefits, covering a range of dental problems and improving the overall appearance of your teeth. View patient results in our before and after pictures on our Dental Crowns page.

How Much Do Dental Crowns Cost?

At Aviva Dentistry, our dental crown treatment cost starts at £998 per unit. On treatments over £500, we offer 0% interest-free finance options to help spread the cost. View our full page on fees to find out more information.
